Since we had already big trips over fall break and spring break, we decided to go for a long weekend getaway over summer break. We left early Friday morning and came home Tuesday afternoon. It was perfect! Our girls are at an age where they are big enough to hold their own all day without naps and young enough to be easily impressed. This was our first time staying in a one room hotel, and it was a success!
We stayed at the Westin. As soon as we checked in we hit the pool and pool bar:) |
It was very kid and adult friendly! |
We stayed at the Westin which is on the other side of the river from Savannah. It's a golf and spa resort with a beautiful view of Savannah. We chose it for it's resort style pool overlooking the river and the city. To get over to Savannah we took a quick fairy. The kids loved this part each day.
Elizabeth wanted to take a picture of us waiting for the fairy. I was already in relaxed vacation mode and we had only been there for a couple of hours. |
We ate at The Pirate House and it was perfect! It's been open since the 1700s and it was so fun and yummy. We were even given a tour by a pirate! |
After dinner, we took a relaxing stroll down Bay Street and then River Street. |
I love exploring festive towns with my little family. It was nice not to have anything planned after dinner so we could do whatever came to mind... |
like get candy from River Street Sweets |
Some screen time for these two before bed time. Elizabeth and I stared out our window and had "grown up" conversations. |
On Saturday morning, we were up ready to take the fairy across the river for a full day of touristy things. |
We bought passes for the all day on/off trolley. That way we could walk and explore and then hop on a guided trolley any time we wanted. It was perfect. |
We had lunch at Paula Dean's restaurant, Lady and Sons... it did not disappoint. |
Back on the trolly |
This was the park where Forrest Gump was filmed. |
The girls loved Forsyth Park |
We had to stop at the famous Leopold's Ice Cream |
We ate dinner at a new place off of City Market called B&D Burgers. Not only did they have fabulous burgers, they had an amazing outside area. There was live music and cornhole for the kids to play. |
After dinner we went back to the hotel for a night swim. |
On Sunday we drove about 30 minutes to Tybee Island. We rode bikes down the beach before stopping and renting chairs. We stayed all day until the storms rolled in. I'm not a huge fan of the east coast beach, but it's perfect for riding bikes and letting the kids run around without burning their feet.
As we left Tybee, a storm came in which made it perfect timing to go to a late lunch at The Crab Shack. We ate here once before when Elizabeth was about 18 months old. They have delicious food, a fun atmosphere, and alligators to feed! |
On Monday, we headed back to Savannah to hit up the Children's Museum. Unfortunately it's an outdoor museum and it closed that day because of potential storms. But we were still excited because the Hills were driving over from Hilton Head and we were spending the day with them! |
We strolled the streets of Savannah and Mr. Chris gave some history lessons:) |
Because we enjoyed it so much the first time, we took them back to eat and B&D Burgers. |
The sun came out as we got back to the hotel so we decided to relax by the pool |
That night we ordered in and relaxed. I got up early the next morning and went to the spa while Bert packed up and fed the girls. I came back completely relaxed and ready to drive back to reality!
