Sick Day

After feeling crappy all week, I finally took a sick day.  Bert and I both have the flu!  He held a 102 fever for almost 3 straight days.  Mine wasn't quite as bad, but not I think it's turning into bronchitis.
2 Sick Parents + 2 Activie Kids = Misery
Elizabeth is better, but feeling quite empathetic.  She told me last night that she would take care of me if I slept in her bed with her.  Master Manipulater!!

This chicken pot pie provided some comfort:)
I sat in the driveway today while the girls played outside in the beautiful weather.  I think the fresh air did me some good because I'm actually feeling like a human right now!  I'm praying that tomorrow I wake up feeling like a brand new person!

First ever soccer game

Last Saturday was Elizabeth's very first soccer game.  We chose soccer because a) she asked to play it and b) it's a great team sport that will keep her busy and more likely to nap!  The coach said his main goal was that no one cried.  First game... success!  They have 2 goals as far as "skills" go for the players: 1) they learn the concept of no hands and 2) they learn that thier goal is on one side and they defend the goal on the other side.  The team is mixed with new players and players with 1-2 years experience.  It was hilarious watching the mob of girls chase the ball around the field.  But they all had a blast, and no one cried!
getting her first instructions from the coach

they played 4 on 4 without a goalie
Bert was recruited as an assistant coach
Game time jitters- When Elizabeth gets nervous she puts her hands in her mouth (we learned that during ballet).
She held her own very well.  It helps a lot that the coaches run along with them instructing them as they go.

If this girl has any soccer skill, it WON'T be from her mama!
Each time she stood like this while she waited for the ball to come her way.

This little girl on the left ended up scoring on Elizabeth during this run.  E was so excited for her that she clapped and cheered as if she was on her team.  Pure sweetness.
Elizabeth and this little girl went back and forth with the ball A LOT.

Just look at the arm block she has on Elizabeth!  Thankfully, Izzy (on the left) came to Elizabeth's rescue.  She is by far the best and most experienced player on their team.  It feels so weird to say that about a bunch of 4 and 5 year olds.
She was pretty good at defending the ball.

Watching our girl learn about teamwork and having so much fun made for the perfect Saturday morning.  I guess this marks the beginning of many, many Saturdays on the field (or court)!

It found us!

Thanks to the girls only being in school part time, we've gotten through the cold and flu season unscathed. But that good fortune ran out today!
Elizabeth has the flu! Since she had the flu shot in the fall, it will most likely take a faster course and she won't get "acutely" ill (says the doc). I've got my fingers crossed and saying my prayers.

Elizabeth was such a good patient. Didn't complain a bit about all the swabbing they did.

Caroline felt fine but was a little jealous of all the attention her sister was getting. Both girls enjoyed their Popsicle though!

Now we're watching a movie, resting, and drinking lots of fluids! Ill take this over the stomach bug any day!!

Social Calendar

These days Elizabeth's social calendar is WAY more booked than ours is.  She had not one, not two, but three birthday parties this weekend and her first soccer game (that deserves its own post)!
Birthday Party #1 was for Alex (her little boyfriend at school) on Friday night at Champion Kids.
We treated ourselves to mani-pedi afterwards.  I just love that she enjoys these as much as I do!

Birthday Party #2 was for another school friend named Noah at Monkey Joe's.  It is so fun to see all of the school kids play together, and I'm grateful to have a chance to know their parents.
Birthday Party #3 was for Kathryn.  It was Elizbath's favorite party of the weekend because it was for a special friend and it was a Princess Party!
We went to lunch with some friends after church today.  And even though it was planned by the adults so we could enjoy each other, I think the kids had just as much fun!  It is definitely all about them these days!!

Welcome Weekend

This week has been long and cold, but the weekend is here!  We started off this week with our regular after church lunch at Laredo's.  Or as Elizabeth calls it, "Rados."

This week was a busy but productive one.  I had a few early morning meetings and late night school events.  But being home with my crazy girls was the highlight as always!

Caroline has so much personality.  She is constantly cracking us up.  She mimics everything we do.  The other day Bert was standing in the middle of the living room, watching TV with his arms crossed.  As soon as she spotted him, she walked up next to him, faced the TV and crossed her arms too.  Funny girl!
I wish this was a video and not a picture.  Not just because her eyes look scary and her belly's hanging out (which is a little funny all on its own), but because she was really workin' it down the stairs not even aware that anyone was watching.  She wasn't putting on her typical show, she was just being Caroline.  She dances or sashays everywhere she goes.  This girl is full of personality.
And this girl is getting sweeter and sweeter by the day.  She's always had a big heart, but lately she's really turned away from the terribe 2s/3s.  Funny story about Elizabeth:
Bert bought her all of her gear for soccer (cleets, knee socks, shin gards, athletic shorts and pants), decked her out, and took her in the front yard to practice.  He was explaining to her that the purpose of the shin gards was to protect her legs from being kicked when the other girls were trying to take the ball from her.  My tough little athlete instantly broke down into tears crying, "Why would they try to take the ball from me???  That's not nice."  She was truly heart broken over the prospect.  And I was reminded that my seemingly tough little girl has a heart of pure gold!

Spring, where are you?

I am officially over this very cold weather.  If it's not going to snow and give me a free day home with my kiddos, then I want it gone!
I'm ready to play outside.  We had one warm day a week and a half ago that lasted just long enough to leave me begging for more.  What a tease!
Elizabeth is loving her skooter these days.

Caroline is still content to be pushed in her car or ride along in her sister's jeep.

One of my very favorite things about playing outside, is that it warrants immediate bath time when they come in.  I just LOVE a sweet smelling baby after bath time!

Switching Things Up

This weekend we converted Elizabeth's room into a big girl bed.  We planned to wait until spring break, but I couldn't put her off anymore.  She was so excited, and I'm in love with the sweetness of her new room.  We kept the color scheme the same which made it a lot easier (no painting of walls or changing out the decor).
We did switch the girls' chairs.  We figured Elizabeth didn't need a recliner in her room anymore since we can stretch out in her bed if we need to.  I am so happy that we figured out a way to get the chair by the window.  I've wanted to do this since we set up her toddler bed.

She excited that she can actually use her growth chart now too.

I know she will eventually need a mirror, but I couldn't make myself take down her newborn portrait yet.

This is her favorite pillow on her bed.  Truth be told, after I made her bed, she moved this pillow in front so she could see it better.  Thanks Meyers!

While we were at it, I decided to rearrange Caroline's room too.

I really wanted her chair by the window too.

I wanted to switch the wall decor, but then I got lazy.  There would be so many extra holes in the wall and I really didn't feel like patching them and  repainting.  So I just didn't.  I still like it the way it is.

In the next 6 months, I will be repurposing this piece since hopefully she won't need a changing table anymore!
And even though it was snowing and below freezing, I got ready for spring.  I LOVE my new burlap Easter egg!
Thank you Christy for my early birthday present!
